LOL thx for asking and making me do some research (which i love to, actually) har har!
This year not much of a controversy (unlike 2 years back where they accused Miss France to be a man). Some of this year's "controversies" are-
Miss Phillipines, Venus Raj was dethroned from Binibining Pilipinas Universe when she was found out to be not exactly a full-fledge Phillipines nationality, which according to her document she was born in Dubai where her mother worked as a maid. But somehow she was determined to get her Phillipines passport and grabbed that title again to represent her country.
Rima Fakih, Miss USA from Michigan is the first Muslim woman and Arab-American to win Miss USA but she got some bad reviews and stir some controversies in her country-all by her haters and anti-muslim. Some even claimed that she was funded by the Islamic jihad and Taliban to enter the competition to use her as as suicide bomber. DUH! Do you really think these Islamic group wanna see their women parading swim suit on stage?:rolleye0012: But overall, American public love her and she's been dubbed as the first "ghetto" Miss USA ever!
And lastly, pageant fans are not favoring Miss Venezuela, Marelisa Gibson to win her country for the third consecutive time after they won Miss Universe 2 years in a row with Dayana Mendoza(2008) and Stefania Fernandez(2009), or maybe they just tired of fake surgical beauty.
